“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
As 7 UPpers we meet weekly in small groups and/or as individuals on the internet, we choose to Praise Him and Worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
Jesus came and told his disciples, I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Gospel: John 1:6-8, 19-28
A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, “Who are you?” He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Christ.” So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you have to say for yourself?” He said: “I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘make straight the way of the Lord,’” as Isaiah the prophet said.” Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. Father Jack Passed January 19,2017
but these are his thoughts for this lesson
Prayerful thoughts from Father Jack Vessels, SJ.
Since his passing,
Reflections for DEC 17, 3rd Advent:
IS 61.1-2,10-11; 1Thes 5.16-24; JN 1.-8,19-26
THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME.
HE HAS SENT ME TO BRING GOOD TIDINGS
TO THE LOWLY, HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED,
PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES.
The Jews asked John, ‘Who are you?’ He replied, ‘I am not the Messiah,’
‘Elijah?’ ‘No.’ Quoting Isaiah, ‘I am a voice in the desert crying out:
Make straight the way of the Lord!’
During the day: Reflect occasionally on the purpose God had when he made you–he had one; you’re the only one of you he made. How are you doing? It’s the only criterion that matters.
ABOUT PRAYER: Prayer is the frequent reflection together with the Boss on how things are going: asking & answering questions, comparing opinions, seeking advise, renewing pledges. It’s a partnership, not a job.
